Seeing red across LAUSD, our unity will bring us the win for our schools and our students. We are fighting for our healthcare, fair salaries, 20by20 ($20k per pupil funding by 2020) and the common good.
Ref, as he faces felony charges and more than two dozen criminal counts, should recuse himself altogether and not be allowed to vote for his replacement, the next president of the school board. We reiterate a call for his resignation as we fight back healthcare cuts and fight for the Schools LA Students Deserve. We will show our solidarity on #BigRedT day, Tuesday, September 26. We will 'Spread the Red' and demand that Ref and the Board do the right thing!
With statewide labor solidarity and community support, the billionaire carve-out bill known as AB 1217 was defeated last week. With strong campaign efforts by UTLA members and allies, including our affiliates, the NAACP, LA County Democratic Party and the state PTA, our message and organizing was powerful enough that the bill was never brought to a vote by the Senate.
As we continue to fight for public education, connecting with our areas is vital to our strength. As a member, you can get information related to your specific area here through resources and news, or contact your UTLA area representative.
