After winning short-term battles, we need to prep for the longer-term war The column below is from Caputo-Pearl’s state of the union address delivered at the UTLA Leadership Conference on July 31. Our members made history last year. You built around the Schools L.A. Students Deserve, organized work sites, hit the streets, hit the airwaves, and built a campaign that was covered by media outlets from the New York Times to National Public Radio to the European press to La Jornada newspaper in Mexico. We did that. Who did that? Who are our folks who made history? Your UTLA Board of Directors. Your UTLA managers and staff. Our guests and our affiliate partners from around the state and country, who have given us such a huge lift. And, now for the most important people who made history, our backbone: chapter chairs, co-chairs, vice chairs, House members, and leaders at work sites.
