February 9th Citywide Actions

Our schools are under attack on numerous fronts. Now more than ever, we must reach out to parents as sustainable partners for successful schools. We must build a movement together for increased funding and local control of our schools and against budget cuts and outside takeovers.

Regional mobilizations (after school)

CENTRAL & WEST AREA

- Meet at Pio Pico-map (1512 S. Arlington Ave., Los Angeles 90019 - ) or Cochran MS-map (4066 W 17th St. Los Angeles-90019) at 3:30 pm
- March to Central District ES #13 for rally - map
(Note: the ending location of the march will be at corner of 4th Ave and Washington Blvd, one block west of New Central Elementary School #13.)

Parking: Some parking will be available on the the Pio Parking parking lot and on the adjacent side streets. Some street parking will be available on adjacent streets to the Cochran MS and Central District building.

EAST AREA

- Meet at Garfield High-map (5101 E. 6th Street, Los Angeles 90022) at 3:30 pm
- March to Belvedere Park

Parking: Available on side streets adjacent to Garfield HS.

HARBOR & SOUTH AREA

Rally at Fremont High-map (7676 S. San Pedro Street, Los Angeles 90003) at 3:30 pm

Parking: Available on some streets adjacent to Fremont HS. Best bet is on Avalon Blvd.
Park & Ride: Two park & ride locations will be available at the Manchester Blvd/Harbor (110) freeway. Buses will shuttle people to and from the rally. Look for the R&S bus line.

NORTH AREA

- Rally at Gratts Elementary-map ( 309 Lucas Avenue, Los Angeles 90017) after school
- March to LAUSD School Board-map ( 333 So. Beaudry Avenue,
Los Angeles 90017) at 4:15 pm

Parking: Available at Gratts ES playground parking lot and Miguel Contreras Learning Center parking structure. Overflow parking will be at Belmont HS Level D.

Mass Transit:
Ride: Metro Rail Red Line
From: North Hollywood Station (from the Valley)
          Union Station (coming from downtown)
To: Westlake/MacArthur Park Station
Then Ride: Metro Rapid 720 (Commerce Center) heading east
From: Wilshire Blvd./Alvarado Street (SE corner)
To: 6th St./Witmer
OR
Ride: Dash Pico Union-Echo Park (Pico Union-Echo Park) heading north
From: Westlake Avenue/Wilshire Blvd. & 7th Street
To: 3rd St./Lucas Avenue (NW corner)

VALLEY EAST & VALLEY WEST

- Rally in the Valley at School Board Member Tamar Galatzan's office-map (6621 Balboa Blvd., Lake Balboa 90406) at 3:15 pm

Parking: Available at Birmingham HS-enter off Victory Blvd.
