About 20,000 students, educators and parents from LA public schools attended one of the largest-ever nationwide K-12 actions, coordinating with 30 cities to “Reclaim Our Schools” early Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016. Of the more than 180 schools participating, two of them – Hamilton High School and 20th St. Elementary School – had featured speakers, including local leaders and students.
Anthony Yom, the AP Calculus teacher at Lincoln High School -- who has made national headlines since one of his students earned a perfect this year’s AP calculus exam -- is excited to participate in the LA walk ins:
"There are so many dedicated teachers and students in LAUSD who are doing amazing work, and we want to celebrate them in Wednesday's walk in,” said Yom, also a UTLA member. “We need to support our students and communities by providing an education that is meaningful, accessible and equitable for all. We do that by building the future one student, one class and one great community public school at a time.”
