Election Timeline
August 31, 2008: Bargaining unit members who joined UTLA on or before August 31, 2008, will be eligible to vote in the House elections.
September 19: Election rules, timeline, self-nomination form and electoral district assignment form in UNITED TEACHER.
September 19: Nominations open.
October 17: Second printing of timeline, self-nomination form and electoral district assignment form in UNITED TEACHER.
October 24: Last day on which nomination forms will receive written verification.
October 31: Close (4:30 p.m.) of nominations.
October 31: Last day to submit electoral district assignment form (for members not assigned to a single site).
November 17: Ballots mailed (no ballots will be mailed in districts where the elections are uncontested).
November 24: Members who have not received their ballots or received the wrong ballot should call Janice Luna (or designee) at (213) 368-6259 no later than 4:30 p.m. on November 24, 2008, in order to receive a ballot.
December 3: Special interest group elections conducted at House meeting. Notification printed on flyers. (Certain groups to elect on another date. See Election Rules for details.)
December 12: Deadline (9 a.m.) for ballots to be received and picked up from Post Office for counting.
December 12: Ballots counted.
December 17: Board of Directors ratifies the election.
December 18: Notification to those elected and results posted on www.utla.net.
January 21, 2009: At-large House elections conducted at the Area meetings to fill any remaining vacancies and alternates. (Notification printed on flyers.)
January 23: Publication of results of House elections in UNITED TEACHER.
February 4: First meeting of new House of Representatives preceded by orientation meeting.
