Jun. 23, 2009: LAUSD approves budget by a 5-2 voteOn Tuesday, June 23, the school board approved the proposed budget, which includes major cuts and increased class sizes over the next three years. After listening to angry parents and union members, the school board approved the budget by a 5-2 vote. Listening to their consciences, and understanding the complete chaos this budget will have on the schools and the students, board members Julie Korenstein and Marguerite LaMotte vote against the budget. Julie Korenstein said: "It's an impossible situation for a board of education and a superintendent to try to balance a budget when you do not know how much money is coming -- forget in two years, you don't even know what's coming in six months anymore in the state of California."
