UTLA departments and professional staffThere are six UTLA departments that serve our members:
Click here for our Staff Directory. Professional StaffThe Professional Staff helps organize school sites, protects members' professional rights, leads workshops and trainings, and represents members at grievances and arbitrations. The staff also includes specialists in health and benefits, professional development, special education, adult education and early childhood education. Information Services and TechnologyThe Information Services and Technology Department maintains the UTLA computer network, including all software and hardware. They also develop and maintain detailed and current computerized data on UTLA members, with diligent protection of your privacy rights. CommunicationsThe Communications Department is in charge of all UTLA communications including the United Teacher, e-mail newsletter, UTLA hotline, website, flyers and mailings. To keep costs down, UTLA operates our own print shop. This department also helps promote our members and UTLA issues through public relations, advertising and community outreach projects. Support ServicesThe Support Services staff assists the UTLA officers, managers, and professional staff as secretaries, assistants, clerk typists, and maintenance workers. They also help the Area Chairs, Committee Chairs, Board of Directors, House of Representatives, and affiliate groups with their meetings and annual events, such as conferences and fund-raisers. Government RelationsThe Government Relations department conducts all of UTLA's political activity, including lobbying elected officials in Sacramento and Washington D.C. The vast majority of this important work is funded by PACE, the Political Action Council of Educators, because, by law, only $5 of your dues can go to political work. Business OfficeThe Business Office is charged with keeping a strict accounting of how UTLA funds are spent. This department, which includes a controller, a manger, bookkeepers, and accountants also oversees the scheduling of UTLA meeting rooms and any spending on political causes and candidates. In addition, the Business Office works with outside auditors on a monthly basis to keep our books in order. |
