Helen Bernstein Professional Development Center
Since 1997 UTLA headquarters has been home to the Helen Bernstein Professional Development Center, which offers classes for UTLA members at all stages in their careers. (link to professional development page)

Institute for Standards, Curricula & Assessments (ISCA)
UTLA’s Institute for Standards, Curricula and Assessments (ISCA) was founded in 1999 to create a new professional life for teachers, one where teachers would assume responsibility for developing curriculum and assessments. National Board Certification (NBC) Support Network
Helps UTLA members pursue National Board Certification, a prestigious and voluntary system to assess and certify teachers and health and human services professionals. LAUSD now has more than 1,200 NBCTs, a higher total than in most states. Read the National Board Certification FAQs to see if this is your year to go for certification. Peer Assistance and Review (PAR)
Improving struggling teachers’ classroom performance is the goal of the Peer Assistance and Review program, which is jointly run by UTLA and the District. The PAR program pairs outstanding classroom teachers with struggling new teachers and veterans to provide sustained, meaningful assistance. For more information call 213-385-5398.

UTLA/LAUSD Collective Bargaining Education Project
The Collective Bargaining Education Project is a social studies instructional program co-sponsored by UTLA and LAUSD. The award-winning role play and simulation curriculum, “Workplace Issues and Collective Bargaining in the Classroom” assists social studies teachers to incorporate labor relations education into their units of study.
