Reduction In Force (RIF) Information

RIF Update

UPDATE: February 8, 2012- The School Board is expected to vote Tuesday on a proposal to cut more than 200 positions for the 2013-14 school year. Teacher librarians are also on the District’s hit list. Anyone who works in our schools knows that LAUSD needs more teacher librarians—not fewer—to serve the needs of our students. See the rest of this RIF update here.

UPDATE: October 11, 2012 - Based on post-norm day enrollment figures, 340 elementary teachers will be reemployed immediately by LAUSD (and the number may go higher). UTLA has not received figures yet for secondary positions, but we are pressing LAUSD to give us that information ASAP.  The new round of rehiring will mean that more than 5,800 positions for teachers and health and human services professionals have been restored since the jobs restoration agreement passed last June. UTLA continues to press for more employees to be rehired and for all vacant positions to be filled with full-time educators.

UPDATE: July 20, 2012
Since the school year ended, additional UTLA members have been reemployed, including more than 300 for K-12 and early childhood educators. In total, since the jobs restoration agreement passed, more than 5,000 positions for teachers and health and human services professionals have been restored. UTLA is closely monitoring the implementation of the agreement by LAUSD to ensure that the maximum number of positions is restored. More employees will be rehired and placed into positions in the coming weeks as student enrollment materializes and retirement and transfer numbers are finalized.
