UTLA Media Campaign build support for local school plans
During the buildup to the parent advisory vote (Feb.2 and 6th) and the School Board vote (Feb 23rd) on the reform proposals submitted by inside and outside groups, UTLA is running a series of print and radio ads to encourage support for the teacher plans. The media campaign, implemented with the help of the California Teachers Association,
aligns with other outreach efforts, including a phone banking program with
the County Federation of Labor.
Radio ads on 22 stations
Featuring the voices of UTLA members, our radio ad is airing for three weeks
on more than 20 radio stations. The spot will air on English-language radio
(including adult contemporary station KOST, oldies favorite KRTH, and
news radio stations KNX, KFWB, and KABC), Spanish-language radio (including
contemporary music station KLVE and oldies station KRCD), and Asian-language

Phone calls to reach 90,000 families
UTLA has partnered with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Los Angeles County Federation of Labor to contact
more than 90,000 families in areas where outside groups are making their
biggest takeover push. The phone program allows parents, after hearing
the benefits of the local school plans, to choose to record a message for
their School Board member.
The advisory votes will take place February 2 and 6. Superintendent Cortines
will make his recommendations to the School Board on February 23.

Narrator:
The LA school board is about to decide the future of 30 public schools. And
when it comes to making the changes our schools need -- it's teachers who know
best.
Teacher One:
Classroom teachers believe ALL children have a right to attend their neighborhood
school.
And we should strengthen those schools with proven reforms that emphasize smaller
class sizes and focus on teaching the critical thinking skills our children
need for college and good-paying jobs.
Teacher Two:
That’s why we need to stop the education bureaucrats’ plan to
turn over our schools to outside corporations. Outside operators that run
experimental schools -- and have a track record of excluding some children
from attending their own neighborhood school.
Duffy:
This is A.J. Duffy, a special education teacher, and President of United Teachers
Los Angeles.
Our kids need you to tell the School Board to say YES to local teacher and
parent led reforms and NO to outsiders running our schools. Learn more at UTLA.net.

Narrator:
Teacher Two:
a compañías privadas.
locales. Para más información, vaya a UTLA.net.
