LAUSD Letters to Substitute Teachers

July 1, 2010: Recently, there has been misinformation regarding letters sent to some substitute teachers by LAUSD.  In April, 2010 LAUSD mailed out letters to substitute teachers who were being separated (taken off the sub list) for continued unavailability.  If you did not receive such a letter from LAUSD, then your status is not in jeopardy regarding this issue.

The letter was sent by LAUSD so it could delete from its records substitute teachers who have been repeatedly unavailable to work when needed. LAUSD has the right to ensure that substitutes are available so that active substitute teachers can be called promptly.  This is not an issue that UTLA can negotiate with LAUSD.

UTLA will continue to monitor the actions of LAUSD in regard to substitute teachers.

If you have any questions, LAUSD is referring people to their Substitute Unit at 213-241-6117.
