July 8, 2010 – United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) went to court today to ask the Los Angeles Superior Court to require the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to follow their agreement with UTLA on Pilot schools.   (Read more) »

July 6 2010: United Teachers Los Angeles is committed to working with all stakeholders at each school within LAUSD to make them outstanding schools for ALL students.  However, the decision by the LAUSD to reconstitute Fremont High School was wrong.   Replacing the teachers at a struggling school has simply not worked, as study after study has shown. (Read more) »

June 30, 2010 – Teachers, parents, and administrators, working with United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) and the Los Angeles School Development Institute (LASDI), have submitted Letters of Intent (LOI) for the eight focus schools and nine new schools in LAUSD’s Public School Choice (PSC) Round 2. May 13, 2010 – United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) announced today that its 350 member House of Representatives voted last night to approve a tentative agreement with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to formalize a new reform model, Expanded School Based Management Model (ESBMM), and make it available to up to 30 schools by June 30, 2012.  (Read more) »

May 13, 2010: LAUSD could have prevented the court case
UTLA recognizes the severe impact on student learning when schools lose a large percentage of teachers and health and human services professionals. LAUSD could have prevented this situation at these schools by enforcing its own policy based on the Rodriguez Consent Decree, which would have created a balance of new and veteran teachers at these schools.  (Read more) »
