QUESTION AND ANSWERS
Who or what is Twitter?
Twitter is a service for people to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, simple, but "instant " messages. People write short updates, often called "tweets" of 140 characters or fewer. If you are a "follower' the tweets can be viewed on your cell phone or simply viewed on a webpage.
All you need is an internet connection or a mobile phone.
Why is UTLA using it?
Twitter is an additional tool to keep our members informed about current update and news. As you know, we use the website, phone blasts, faxes, email, and even regular mail to update our members. But sometimes, we want to know what is going on "right now!". Twitter gives us the opportunity to send immediate updates to many members at once on certain events that they can not attend.
So how does this work?
1) You can simply just go to the web page at www.twitter.com/UTLAnow and follow our tweets, OR
2) You can sign-up at www.twitter.com/UTLAnow, and then add your cellphone to receive tweets directly to your cell phone. Once sign-up, add UTLAnow as a twitter to follow, and then our tweets can go to your cellphone. This is a bit more complicated, depending on your cellphone services, but it can keep you updated when you do not have access to the internet. (As technology is always changing, go to twitter.com for instuctions specific to your phone)
Note: Twitter doesn't charge you but be sure to check with your provider to make sure text messages are covered in your phone's service plan.
Signed up, but still not getting tweets on your phone? When logged in, go to the groups you are following and make sure to turn Device updates:"ON' for UTLAnow.
