January 5, 2018Statement
As educators across Los Angeles, we send our support to Dr. Michelle King, and stand in steadfast solidarity with her in her battle against cancer. As a Los Angeles Unified School District student, parent, support staff, educator, and administrator, Dr. King brought decades of public education experience to her role as Superintendent. We celebrate her many accomplishments and her fundamental, action-backed belief in a public school district that serves all students. We are proud to have worked with Los Angeles’ first African-American woman superintendent, and we know her contributions will continue. As we offer support to her in this battle, we will continue to support our students in our classrooms, counseling centers, libraries, nurses’ stations and other offices, as Dr. King has done for so many years, in the remarkable enterprise of public education.
