On April 24, on the 106th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, President Joe Biden formally recognized as genocide the killing of more than 1 million Armenians by the Ottoman Turkish Empire starting in 1915.

This historic statement is consistent with positions that United Teacher Los Angeles has taken in recognition of the Armenian Genocide.  UTLA is located within the largest population of the Armenian diaspora outside of Armenia.

“UTLA stands solidly with the Armenian community and is committed to educating our students with historical facts not held captive by political motives and maneuvers,” UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz said. “Until we can agree on facts, we cannot move forward in liberation and healing.”
