PURPOSE

To effectively fight back against looming budget cuts and layoffs, secure COVID-safe working and learning conditions, and achieve racial justice in our schools and communities, we must develop powerful local unions with multiracial, gender diverse teams of thousands of rank and file educators capable of training, recruiting and developing even bigger teams of school site, student, and parent activists.

WHO IS THIS TRAINING FOR?

Power in the education system must be built from the bottom-up, school site by school site, and, local union by local union. This training is for school site leaders, and, aspiring school site leaders, who want to build unbreakable solidarity and effective site structures. It is also for local union leaders interested in refreshing their organizing skills.

WHAT SKILLS ARE THE FOCUS OF THE POWER BUILDING SUMMER SCHOOL?

Our opponents include some of the most influential and wealthy elite, such as Netflix’s Reed Hastings and the Walton family. They have a plan and are dedicating loads of resources to using this crisis to undermine the possibility for all students to have equal access to high quality, free, public education. This on-line, but interactive training will help with foundational organizing strategies to build sufficient power locally to fight back and win. The training includes:

  2. b. Charting and Mapping your schools
  3. c. Semantics
  4. d. How to Hold a Successful Organizing Conversations
