UTLA represents more than 1000 teachers and other certificated staff at independent charter schools at sites from South L.A. to the San Fernando Valley. When charter school educators unionize, they gain a voice in decision making at their school.
Because of unionizing with UTLA, charter educators are able to advance the quality of public education through collective power and protected rights as well as advocate at the local, state and federal levels for education.

Schools, students and educators all perform better when teachers and school staff receive the professional respect, support and compensation they deserve.
As a union of professionals, UTLA has long supported teachers and school employees in their efforts to strengthen their voice on the job, improve their schools, and better their wages, benefits and working conditions. This commitment extends to all educators, regardless of the type of school in which they work.
